New entrance & bar concept for Casino Cosmopol in Gothenburg

We wanted to challenge traditional casino design with Nordic roots and enhance historical details. The architecture of the building creates an expectation already on the outside, with our design we wanted to create an experience from the moment you step into these amazing premises.

Natural materials like stone and wood meet shiny metals when you step into the Casino's new entrance. We wanted the premises to give a welcoming feeling with elaborate material choices and unexpected combinations. The walls have been painted with plaster that gives a pleasant and warm surface that blends into the premises. We wanted the reception area to have the same feel, so we chose a micro cement to compliment the walls. The wooden details of the counters with metal elements are a typical contrast between the traditional nature of the premises and the expectation one has when entering a casino.

Inside the entrance, we find the casino's new bar area with a magnificent ceiling height. Here you are greeted by a fireplace that becomes a focal point in the room. The furniture creates both the opportunity to gather for an AW or sit near the gaming tables that are in the middle of the room. We have been inspired by the building's arches and created a bar where the center follows exactly these. The wooden bars at the front of the bar are inspired by the Casino's other bars, creating a coherent design throughout the venue. We wanted to give the bar a more classic look by having the stone on the bench continue down the front.

When designing the new staircase, we looked at old pictures of the house to try to create something that feels like it's always been there but at the same time reflect the rest of the materiality of the rooms.

Casino Cosmopol in Gothenburg has had high ambitions and we are so happy that it has been such a successful result. Even with tight deadlines, we have had a customer who has understood the value of our creative processes and also engaged in this. We look forward to our continued collaboration!
