The residential project is part of a larger transformation of the beautiful old regiment into housing for the future and consists of five different volumes that land on the existing sloping terrain in a natural way. The house offers the very best of the view, landscape and south-facing location, and follows the slope with respect for the surroundings. Given the fantastic location, we focused on the view, so windows and balconies were given full attention in the design process.

We have worked on form and function at an early stage, focusing on a dynamic architecture on the exterior and rational choices for the interior. Great emphasis was placed on the flexible layout of the apartments, allowing the balconies to be placed in different positions without adversely affecting the layout.

Kvarteret Dykaren resulted in a dynamic façade with floor-to-ceiling wooden balconies. The same principle was adopted for the large rooftop terraces, where the machined volumes transition to wood. Facade materials and color tones have been carefully selected to blend in with the surrounding buildings, which have a long history on the island.

The terrain also played an important role in the whole design, a lot of dark areas on the ground floor of the buildings had to be solved and integrated into the floor plans to offer the best of the situation. In the space between the buildings, we have tried to maintain the wild vegetation, to respect the natural character of the site before construction began.

The project consists of five different volumes that land on the existing sloping terrain in a natural way and are positioned to prioritize views from all buildings. Form and function were in focus from an early stage, aiming to find a balance between a dynamic architecture on the exterior and a rational solution for the interior. This is reflected in the layout of the apartments, which allows the balconies to be placed in different positions without negatively affecting the layout.
